Why Mini Sites Make So Much Money

Visit almost any restaurant, and you’ll see evidence of the increasingly common belief that bigger is better. Fast food restaurants zealously encourage their patrons to upsize their drinks and fries, and upscale dining establishments pile food high on their customers’ plates.

Many websites have taken the “bigger is better” theory to heart, too. Superstores like Overstock.com and Walmart have websites consisting of thousands upon thousands of pages. And they are doing quite well for themselves.

When there are so many large sites online, it may seem futile to try to get a piece of the pie. The average person doesn’t have the time or money to set up such an operation, let alone maintain it. But you don’t have to. A mini site can flourish in a land of Internet giants.

The reason mini sites work is because they do not directly compete with the big guys. Instead of trying to be all things to all people, a mini site simply seeks to do well in a small niche. In this case, smaller is better.

The most successful mini sites go after a small but underserved niche. They find a need that isn’t being filled, and they fill it. This puts them into a position to get better rankings in the search engines, because the keywords that people would use to find their offerings are not often targeted by webmasters of larger sites. With some good SEO, they can get targeted traffic at very little expense.

Once the visitors are at the mini site, the sales letter grabs their attention and, hopefully, convinces them to make a purchase. Those who are on the fence may sign up for a newsletter or free course. This provides the opportunity to maintain contact and persuade them to buy later.

A mini site can hold its own, even with millions of other web pages online. You just need a good niche, a quality product and a strong sales pitch.

Laser targeted niche sites are really cool, just imagine having 20 sites each making 5 dollars a day. That’s $3K a month on autopilot and more if you’d like!

Yeah there is nice thing to have mini sites doing for you a lot of cash, and you dont need to do much work with them. Still this money can be easily achived with one large site if is well taking care of.

@Fotograf, you’re right that one large authority site can be a goldmine. But building a site like that can take a long time and a lot of work. Most people will give up before they ever get there. That’s why its easier for most to stick with smaller sites that are easier to run and let the profits build up. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, Running a small site is easier and makes your profit build up while large sites do need lots of work for maintenance but sure is a goldmine.. I wonder what approximately a large site earns a month…

Perhaps the reason that minisites make a lot of money (most of them)is because they only give the user 2 options. Either he presses the close button, or makes a purchase.

Some of them even offer a free e-book and offer their main product as an OTO, or an upsell. If you have a product that you would like to sell, then the best way to sell it is to put in on a minisite, there’s no doubt about that. Or, put the free e-book with a few leaked chapters from the main product and sell it to them later on.

    Cheers

I agree with Mike. to build and administrate a site means lots of work. The idea that it is easy money isn’t true. You can get much money with it, but you need to work, and work…

Hey Johnny, thanks for your comment. I agree that the key to a successful mini-site is to limit their options as much as possible. Too many choices only complicates things. Ideally you only want an order button or subscription form, depending on your goals for the site.
