“What If Everyone Whose AdSense Account Was Cancelled Sued Google?”

in AdSense

Just a short post today…unfortunately we’ve been dealing with a pair of serious illnesses in our family and its taken a huge toll on both my time and energy.  I’m doing my best to keep posting regularly.

Anyways…just wanted to pass along a short article that intrigued me…

It tells the tale of a business owner who has his AdSense account closed without notice and his struggles to find out why.  He was never able to get a definitive answer from Google but he was able to sue them for the amount that was in his account ($721) at the time it was terminated.

The scary part is that this could happen to any of us at any time.  Google maintains its right to terminate any AdSense account for any reason and without warning.

Just imagine your entire business plan disintegrating right before your eyes and there’s nothing you can do about it.

You can read the full story here.

Thanx a lot for the interesting link. I guess big corporations tend to behave like google is behaving now. Power corrupts.

Good job by the author of huffington post.

Ya, i already read the story. I felt that the right thing was done. Google shouldnt cancel any account by saying that they can cancel for any reason.

This is interesting (and scary at the same time).

I do hope Google changes it’s policy to be a bit more definitive about why they are terminating an account, especially if the account did nothing to violate the terms of service.

I can’t see Google being too worried about one person taking legal action against them for having their account closed, but I’m sure the idea of more people coming forward and taking action will get them thinking.

    Thanks for posting,

This was a great story, Im glad to see that the guy did not back down and demanded he get his money back. Im sure if google did not give a reason to everyone they would have a reason to sue google.

My condolences go out to you and your family and I hope the illnesses go away quickly.

As for this story, its a good one because it shows that he didn’t let Google’s massive status deter him and he won his hard-earned money. You have to wonder if his case will prompt a domino effect against Google.

First of all I wish your family to get well soon!

Some times I think that Google can steal money from people and no body can do anything about it, your friend has accepted the terms that Google can close your account at any time! this is too bad .. but it’s something that anyone can face at any time.

personally I am trying not to think about what I will lose if Google close my account one day.

Thinking about different strategies to earn money online is a good idea for all bloggers they want to monetize their blogs.

    Good day!

Although I don’t like the fact that they terminate accounts without good reason..I must say it is there right. Like any other business..They have the right to do business with whoever they chose. I have no problem with that fact. As I will only work with the people I chose as well.

Even if you could win most people wouldn’t bother suing google. But I’m sure glad I don’t use ad sense.

I would support this as I’m a victim too. My account was also cancelled just after 2 months. The reason given by Google was that my account posed a risk to others. That was that, not further explanation. That’s the same old reason this guy was told too, so looks like I could be in the same boat. Perhaps I ought to sue. But I’d rather Google just reinstate my account. Anyone can tell me what should be my next step?

A forum that I’m a member of has members who were owed in the tens of thousands of dollars when their Adsense accounts were canned.

Admittedly, they were doing stuff that went against google’s guidelines (no click-fraud though), but that’s still gotta hurt!

While I don’t condone this action if Google are keepng money that people have already earned, I guess there are a couple of lessons here.
    1) Business is business - Google isn’t a there to help YOU make money, it’s there to help GOOGLE make money. Never forget that.
    2) Don’t put all your eggs in the Google basket.

I believe he had the right to since he really didn’t do anything wrong. If Google terminates your account for no reason, I believe you are entitled to the money you made on it. As for people who are banned because they clicked on their own ads, they deserve to be banned and lose the money they made on it.

I read this article about this guy a few weeks ago, and thought “good for him” and was quite surprised to see that he actually won (when I first saw the headline, I thought it was a joke or something).

I think at the very least Google should provide the evidence for you being banned. Getting banned without an explanation has got to be so frustrating.

I just hope that people are doing whatever is required in the TOS for adsense. If you are following the terms then you shouldn’t be at risk.

My Google Adsense account was terminated one day without notice and I didn’t find out until one of my medical billing associates wrote to me to let me know something was wrong with one of my Google Knol Pages. They told me that there were funny looking blank spots on those pages and to my surprise that is where all the ad block usually showed up. I went to log into my Adsense account and got a page saying it was under investigation. I logged into my email client to fire Google an email and low and behold they sent me an email as if they knew I had just found out. They said it was because of invalid clicks that had come through recently and I could appeal the action by filling out an online form. I did what they asked and received a response three days later saying we are not going to reinstate the account. I have to say that the experience left a really bad taste in my mouth and I believe they just terminated the account because they couldn’t account for the amount of money I was making in just a two week period. Oh well, once I shake the feeling I will sign up for a different network and start all over again.

    @Online Deals Blog

I agree also… so many people get banned without knowing why, so it simply makes them believe that they did nothing wrong (which may be the case, noone knows except for Google).

yes, Google hates explaining why they do what they do. On the other side you can always open a new account with them - their are after teh money after all. try it if you account has been canceled it works
