Couldn’t agree more with you about free site hosting. When I first started on the net I had a geocites account and an Angelfire site.

I made nothing from them and really since they were free I didn’t put in the effort needed to make them work.

Sucks for the thousands of site owners but getting your domain and hosting costs next to nothing. Especially since you can earn that back in days.

If Geo is closing then what about the webmasters those are taking there hosting services from them.Is that websites will go down?

I really feel sorry for people in this situation, especially people with no money.

But really, around $8 for a domain name and a couple bucks a month for hosting isn’t that much, is it?

Uh oh! Better save those images I hosted back in High School. I had to save them as .txt files because Geocities didn’t allow direct image linking. They were terrible, but it will still be sad to watch the last of the dinosaurs die out.

@Stu, you definitely can’t do that. Just because a site goes down doesn’t mean you can’t steal their content. That’s not cool.

@Dennis, yea you don’t see much of them anymore but some of them had some decent page rank and long tail traffic.
