Before we all get into a debate over whether or not Alexa rankings actually mean anything, let me make my position clear…
Alexa rankings are mostly useless (much like Google PageRank) but it does have value under some circumstances:
1. Selling advertising is a lot easier if your Alexa rank because many people will assume your site has lots of authority and gets lots of traffic, even if it doesn’t.
2. People will pay more to buy your site if it has a high Alexa ranking.
Now despite the fact that these are simply misconceptions (low traffic sites can often outrank much larger and more successful sites) and a high Alexa/Page Rank does not guarantee anything, you can use these misconceptions to your advantage by increasing Alexa ranking of your sites to maximize their advertising revenue as well as their sale price should you choose to sell.
